About Caritas Dance School

 
Caritas Dance School, initially called Caritas Ballet, has a distinguished history as a pioneering institution in Indonesia’s ballet scene. Founded in 1976 by Sunny T. Sistyawati-Pranata, the school dedicated itself to classical ballet instruction. Its core teaching philosophy is based on the Russian Vaganova method, a rigorous and expressive ballet technique that emphasizes seamless transitions, precise movements, and musicality.

 

In 1985, Caritas Ballet made significant strides in professionalizing ballet teaching in Indonesia by becoming a founding member of the Ikatan Pengajar & Pelatih Ballet (IPPB), also known as the Ballet Teachers & Instructors Association. This move underscored its commitment to the advancement of ballet education and teacher collaboration in the region.

 

Further extending its international credentials, in 2008, Caritas Ballet aligned itself with Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD), becoming a member and integrating its globally recognized syllabus. This affiliation has enriched the school’s curriculum, incorporating modern pedagogical approaches and expanding opportunities for students to achieve accredited qualifications recognized both locally and abroad.

Caritas Dance School continues to uphold its legacy through dedicated ballet instruction, fostering technical proficiency and artistic expression in its students while contributing to the development of ballet in Indonesia.

 

Activity programs:

    • Performance once a year.

    • Grade Examinations for all levels, local & international (ATOD, Australian Teachers of Dancing) & ISTD (Imperial Society Teacher of Dancing; London).
    • Joint-performances.
    • Join workshops and competitions to increase our student experience as a ballerina and performers.

1980 : Second Place, Festival Tari Remaja Nasional. “Capung Kecimpung” (Contemporary Ballet)

1981 : Second Place, Festival Tari Nasional. “Hitam-Putih” (Contemporary Ballet).
                Third Place, Festival Tari Anak-anak Nastional. “Bangun Desa” (Children Dance)

1982 : In IPPB National Competition, with judges from Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines:
                First Place: Senior Dance-group category
                First Place: Junior Dance-group category
                First Place: Junior Solo Dancer category (Caroline C. Pranata)

1983 : IPPB National Competition with judges from Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines:
                Second Place: Senior Solo Dancer category (Grace C. Pranata)
                Third Place: Junior Dance Group category
                Third Place: Senior Dance Group category
                Third Place: Children Dance Group category

2001 : Third Place, IPPB  National Company with judges from the Philippines Ballet Company

2024 : Gold, Silver & Bronze Medal in Children Ballet & Modern Dance Competition

Promote the Art of Ballet to become one of the most popular performing arts in Indonesia.

Mission

  1. Educate and teach children to become good ballet dancers.
  2. Create ballet dances for children and further develop these dances into Modern Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary Ballet, and Ballet containing Indonesian traditional traits.
  3. Increase the appreciation of the Indonesian society toward the art of dancing in general and ballet in particular.
  4. Improve children’s physical and mental condition to become strong and healthy by way of practicing ballet exercises.
  5. Develop the children’s self-confidence in performing to a large audience as well as in facing other people in their everyday life in society.
  6. Enhancing harmonious balance between the children’s physical condition & kinetic muscular system.
  7. Educate children to prepare themselves to become future ballet teachers & choreographer.

CARITAS

Origin: Latin (Αγάπε)

Meaning: Loving, Gracious, Dearness, Affection/Charity, Selfless Love

Pronunciation: (KAH ree tas)

Originally in Latin the word caritas meant preciousness, dearness, high price. From this, in Christian theology, caritas became the standard Latin translation for the Greek word Αγάπε, meaning an unlimited loving-kindness to all others.
